Money Bag Keychain Pattern

Hey guys! Long time no post... Hopefully this free little guy will allow you to forgive me. I made this little guy originally for one of my closest friends (my cousin) last year when we were obsessed with Animal Crossing. It started out as a bell bag but it evolved into a few other things, the money bag being my favorite.  This pattern uses a very small amount of yarn and you can whip it up fast, so I highly recommend it if you're in a time crunch. I plan to bring a bunch of these to my next market because of how quickly they work up. Be sure to check out the images at the end of the pattern to see the cute bags made by my pattern testers!

I also want to announce that I have started a Patreon! I'm hoping that once more people join, we can do lots of fun and exclusive things. Most tiers will have access to the PDFs for new patterns for no additional cost. They can also be found on ETSY. I plan to have a few surprises for my members and I am so excited to start this journey, if you'd like to come along with me, check me out on Patreon here: Lizzy Bee Handmade

I prefer to hand sew the patch onto the bag, though you can choose an alternate way to attach it, such as glue or paint it on.

Pattern

Body of the Bag

Using your main color:

R1: sc 6 into a MR (6)

R2: Inc 6 (12)

R3: (sc 1, inc) x 6 (18)

R4: (sc 2, inc) x 6 (24)

R5: (sc 3, inc) x 6 (30)

R6-9: sc (30)

R10: (sc 3, dec) x 6 (24)

R11: (sc 2, dec) x 6 (18)

This is when I like to sew on the felt bag detail, but you can add it at any time.

R12: (sc 1, dec) x 6 (12)

Stuff firmly, continue as you go.

R13: BLO dec 6 (6)

Note: this leaves a ridge, which is where you will reattach your yarn for the top of the bag.

FO, leaving a long tail for closing. Using your tapestry needle, weave your tail through the front loops left from R13, pull tight and weave in your tail.

Top of Bag

No longer working in continuous rounds.

Reattach your yarn using your main color in one of the front loops left over from R12 of the bag, continue in this manner for R1

R1: sc 12, ss to beginning sc, ch 1 (12)

R2: Inc x 12 , ss to beginning sc, ch 1 (24)

R3: Inc x 24 , ss to beginning sc (48)

FO leaving along tail for sewing.

Bag Tie:

Using your accent color

Chain 30 (or preferred length), FO leaving a long tail on both ends for sewing.

Assembly:

If you are using keychain hardware:

Use your pliers to attach the open jump ring to the center of the top of the bag, slide the chain onto the jump ring before closing it.  Here is a videotutorial.

If you haven’t already done so, attach your bag detail now. Cut out your desired shape out of felt and either glue it on or sew it into place.

With the long tail left from fastening off the bag (main color), sew the top of the bag into the desired shape. I like to make it look like an X, sewing through the keychain for a sturdier hold. I usually position the X so that there is a pretty loop above the bag detail (see last image).

With your bag tie, tie around the top of the bag, positioning the knot to the side of the detail you made. Take the long tail left from FO the tie, sew the first loop into place (see images). Repeat with the other half, creating a second loop. Tie a knot with the two ends to secure the work you just did, then weave them in. Note: You are not tying a bow, you are sewing the ends into place to look like a bow.
